How To Make Good Vegan Food

How To Make Good Vegan Food

How to make good vegan food

There’s no one answer to this question since everyone has different tastes, but there are definitely some things you can do to make sure your vegan food is delicious.

First, focus on using fresh and high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the flavour of your dishes.

Second, don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavors and ingredients until you find combinations that you love.

And finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help from experienced vegan cooks – they can be a great resource for finding new recipes and ideas.

What are the vegan staples?

There are a few vegan staples that can be used to create delicious meals. These include fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, beans, nuts, and seeds. With these ingredients, you can make a wide variety of dishes, from simple snacks to hearty main courses.

How to make green vegetables taste great

If you’re not used to eating a lot of vegetables, it can be tough to get excited about them. But there are plenty of ways to make green veggies taste delicious!

One way is to simply cook them properly – often, people don’t like vegetables because they’re overcooked and mushy. So make sure to follow recipe instructions carefully, or experiment until you find the perfect cooking time for your personal taste.

Another way to make vegetables more enjoyable is to enhance their natural flavors with herbs, spices, and sauces. There are endless possibilities here, so again, don’t be afraid to experiment until you find flavor combinations that you love.

Finally, remember that vegetables can be a great addition to other dishes that you already enjoy. For example, if you love pasta, try adding some sauteed veggies to your next plate of noodles. Or if you’re a fan of rice and beans, throw in some chopped vegetables to add some extra nutrition and flavor to your meal.

How to cook bean and lentils for better flavour

Beans and lentils are a great source of protein, fiber, and nutrients – but they can also be pretty bland if they’re not cooked properly.

One way to avoid this is to soak your beans and lentils overnight before cooking them. This will help to soften them and make them more flavorful.

Another tip is to cook your beans and lentils in broth or water that has been flavored with spices, herbs, or vegetables. This will give them an extra boost of flavour.

Finally, don’t forget that you can always add homemade, oil free vegan sauces, dressings, or other toppings to your beans and lentils after they’re cooked in order to further enhance their taste. Experiment until you find combinations that you love

What are some good vegan recipes?

There are endless possibilities when it comes to vegan recipes. But here are a few ideas to get you started:

-Roasted vegetables: Roasting brings out the natural sweetness of vegetables, making them even more delicious. Try roasting a mix of vegetables, like sweet potatoes, carrots, and onions. serve them as a side dish or add them to a salad or grain bowl.

-Fresh fruit salad: A simple fruit salad is a great way to enjoy the seasonal flavours of summer. Try mixing together fresh berries, melon, and grapes. Add a drizzle of lime juice or mint leaves for extra flavour.

-Bean and grain bowl: This is a hearty and filling meal that can be made with whatever beans and grains you have on hand. Simply cook the beans and grains, then mix them together with your favourite vegetables. Top with a dressing or sauce of your choice.

-Vegan pizza: There are lots of ways to make vegan pizza, from using store-bought crusts to making your own dough. toppings can be anything from traditional (like tomatoes and onions) to creative (like roasted Brussels sprouts or mashed potatoes).

-Simple soup: Soup is a great way to use up whatever vegetables you have on hand. Try sautéing some onions and garlic, then adding in your favourite vegetables and enough water or vegetable broth to cover. Simmer until the vegetables are soft, then blend the soup until it’s smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs to taste.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to making vegan food taste great, so don’t be afraid to experiment until you find what you love!

With a little creativity and effort, you can turn even the simplest dish into a delicious vegan feast.

Black Bean And Plantain Burgers With Salvadoran Corn Tortillas

Black Bean And Plantain Burgers With Salvadoran Corn Tortillas

Pancake-thick Salvadoran-style corn tortillas make a great alternative to traditional buns in this delicious plant-based burger recipe. Succulent patties—made with black beans, plantains, bell pepper, and a hearty dose of smoky spices—are sandwiched between the homemade tortillas and drizzled with a spicy pepita sauce. The refreshing cabbage slaw adds a satisfying crunch, and a squeeze of lemon juice ties it all together. Serve open-faced or stack another tortilla on top!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • ½ cup shredded carrot
  • ¼ cup white wine vinegar
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • 2 plantains (preferably green plantains), peeled and cut into ½-inch pieces (1¾ to 2 cups)
  • 1¼ cups finely chopped onion
  • 1 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
  • 7 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ teaspoons dried Mexican oregano, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 15-oz. cans black beans, rinsed and drained (3 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon ancho chile powder
  • ¼ teaspoon guajillo chile powder
  • 2 pinches freshly ground black pepper
  • 1½ cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons pepitas
  • 1¾ cups masa harina
  • Chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Lemon wedges (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. For slaw topping, in a medium bowl combine cabbage, carrot, vinegar, and a sprinkle of salt. Massage cabbage to coat well. Let stand at least 1 hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a saucepan combine plantains, 1 cup onion, the bell pepper, 6 cloves garlic, 1 teaspoon oregano, the cumin, and ¼ cup water. Cook, covered, over medium 15 minutes or until plantains are tender and any liquid has cooked off, stirring occasionally and adding water, 1 to 2 tablespoons at a time, to prevent sticking.
  4. Add beans and lemon juice to pan; season with salt. Cook 3 minutes more. Cool mixture then mash well.
  5. Shape bean mixture into twelve 3-inch patties, using about ⅓ cup mixture per patty. Place on prepared baking sheet. Bake 30 to 45 minutes or until burgers are browned on top. Turn off oven; leave burgers in oven to keep warm.
  6. For Pepita Sauce, in a small saucepan combine the remaining ¼ cup onion, 1 clove garlic, and ½ teaspoon oregano. Add the ancho chile powder, guajillo chile powder, and black pepper. Cook over medium-low about 1 minute. Stir in tomato sauce; cook 2 minutes more. Cool 10 minutes. Transfer to a blender and add pepitas. Cover and blend until smooth. Set aside until ready to serve.
  7. Meanwhile, for tortillas, line a shallow bowl with a clean kitchen towel. Fill a small bowl with water. Place masa harina in a third bowl; add 1½ cups warm water and knead into a soft dough. Divide dough into 12 equal portions.
  8. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium. Roll one dough portion into a ball. Pat the ball into a 3½- to 4-inch tortilla. Place tortilla in hot skillet and brush with water from the small bowl. Cook 5 minutes or until top and edges start to look dry and bottom is browned. Flip and cook 5 minutes more. Transfer to the towel-lined bowl; cover to keep warm. Repeat to make 12 tortillas.
  9. Place burgers on tortillas. Drizzle with Pepita Sauce and top with slaw. If desired, sprinkle with cilantro and serve with lemon wedges.

Burritos With Spanish Rice And Black Beans

Burritos With Spanish Rice And Black Beans

Burritos with Spanish Rice and Black Beans

About once a week, my family eats burritos for dinner. This recipe makes a great burrito filling or side dish and doesn’t take much longer than heating up a can of beans. This is a mildly seasoned dish, so you fire and spice lovers will probably want to increase the amounts of jalapeño peppers and chipotle powder.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green or yellow pepper, stemmed, seeded and chopped
  • ½ –1 jalapeño chile, stemmed, seeded and finely diced (add more or less to taste)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups cooked brown rice
  • 1½ cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned fire-roasted, liquid reserved)
  • 1½ cup black beans (or 1 15-ounce can), rinsed well

  • 1 teaspoon ancho chili powder (or other pure, mild chili powder)
  • ½ teaspoon chipotle chili powder (or more, to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Heat a deep, non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until it begins to brown.
  • Add the pepper, jalapeño, and garlic, and cook for another 2 minutes, taking care not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, stir, and cook, stirring frequently, for about 15 minutes. If it becomes too dry, add a little vegetable broth or reserved tomato juice.
  • Check the flavor, and add salt and additional seasonings to taste.
  • In a dry nonstick skillet over medium heat, warm tortillas one at a time 40 seconds or until warm and pliable, turning once. Cover with a damp cloth to keep warm.
  • Spread about 1 cup of the bean-and-veggie mixture onto each tortilla just below the center. Fold bottom edge of each tortilla over filling. Fold in opposite sides; roll up tortilla. Place burritos, seam sides down, on a platter. Serve warm. If desired, pass hot pepper sauce.

“Nacho” Vegan Baked Potato

“Nacho” Vegan Baked Potato

“Nacho” Vegan Baked Potato

This recipe makes a great go-to meal for busy parents or people. It’s super-quick, super-easy, super-filling, and super-nutritious. All you need is a few minutes during your kid’s nap time, and—boom! You have a real meal to enjoy, and it didn’t come out of a box.

I recommend baking a bunch of potatoes in advance to have them handy for the rest of the week, or you can simply “bake” the potato in the microwave right beforehand. You can make your own black beans and salsa, use leftovers, or even just use store-bought brands in a pinch. I do, of course, recommend spending the extra five minutes to make salsa—but I promise I won’t judge you if you don’t.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large baking potato
  • 1½ teaspoons nutritional yeast (optional)
  • ½ cup black beans, either canned or prepared as directed for Black Beans
  • ¼ cup salsa of your choice
  • ¼ to ½ avocado, cubed, sliced, or smashed
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Cilantro for garnish
  • Lime wedges for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) if baking the potato (rather than microwaving it).
  • Pierce the potato with a fork or knife a few times to allow the steam to escape. Bake in the oven for about 40 minutes, or microwave for 4 to 6 minutes, depending on the size of the potato. Pierce the potato with a fork or knife to check if it is soft and cooked through.
  • When the potato is done, slice it open, and sprinkle on the nutritional yeast, if using.
  • Layer on the black beans, salsa, and avocado. Season with salt and pepper, if using, and garnish with cilantro and lime.
  • Enjoy your yummy, healthy meal!
